System Exclusive (SysEx) Framing (0xF0 ... 0xF7)
The MIDI 1.0 status byte encapsulation protocol that encloses manufacturer-specific binary data between start byte 0xF0 and end-of-exclusive 0xF7.

# Deep Technical Analysis & Historical Context
System Exclusive is the universal escape hatch of the MIDI specification. Unlike Channel Voice messages (Note On, CC, Pitch Bend) which have strict pre-defined 2 or 3-byte lengths, SysEx frames have variable length. Every SysEx packet begins with status byte 0xF0 (Start of System Exclusive) followed by a 1-byte or 3-byte Manufacturer ID assigned by the MIDI Manufacturers Association (MMA). For example, Roland is 0x41, Korg is 0x42, Yamaha is 0x43, Sequential is 0x01, Moog is 0x04, and Oberheim is 0x10. The frame is terminated exclusively by byte 0xF7 (End of Exclusive, EOX). Any intermediate byte containing an active bit 7 aborts the reception on vintage hardware.
Common Studio Pitfall & Hardware Hazard
A disconnected MIDI cable midway through a SysEx dump leaves the receiving synth in an un-terminated status waiting for 0xF7, locking the front-panel UI.

# Frequently Asked Engineering Questions
What is the 3-byte extended manufacturer ID format?
When the original single-byte ID space filled up, MMA established that an ID starting with 0x00 indicates an extended 2-byte code follows (e.g. Access Music is 0x00 0x20 0x33).
