The Korg M1 Setup Guide
The Korg M1, released in 1988, features a multi-tiered menu architecture. If you request a SysEx dump while memory protect is enabled or exclusive filtering is active, the M1 ignores the request. This guide outlines how to navigate the Global mode pages to disable memory protection and allow SysEx data flow to your web browser.
Hardware Setup Steps
- Step 1: Press the GLOBAL button to enter Global Mode.
- Step 2: Use the PAGE+ button to navigate to the MIDI Filtering page.
- Step 3: Ensure that EXCLUSIVE is set to ENA (Enabled). If it says DIS, the M1 will ignore the dump request.
- Step 4: Navigate to the Memory Protect page.
- Step 5: Ensure PROGRAM and COMBINATION are set to OFF.
Remember this
The Korg M1 has separate memory protection settings for Programs (individual sounds) and Combinations (layered performances). Both must be set to OFF before you attempt a SysEx restore, or the unit will reject the incoming data.
